Story by Scott Hulet | Art by Luis Saffa |Photos by Mark Kronermeyer | Edit Project for The Surfer’s Journal

Scott Hulet worked as the editor for TSJ for something close to twenty years and, when he hired me as a managing editor, I was kind of starstruck. He’s literary, hyper intelligent, and loquacious, with a vocabulary that usually keeps everyone around him running for either Urban Dictionary or a thesaurus. When he shifted into the roll of TSJ’s creative director a few years later, it opened him up for more feature writing. This piece from Sinaloa was the first result. Shot by local photographer Mark Kronermeyer—and featuring a cast of Sinaloan surfers and illustration by multimedia artist Luis Saffa—it’s a lot like its author: a super high-functioning and entertaining product.
